Christmas Dinner, Advent Activity 23

I can remember when I was a kid we had HUGE family Christmas dinners. Extended family and friends. I remember the love and calm we all enjoyed together regardless the issues that may have been between one another. Once the grandparents starting passing away and my parents got divorced that was all lost. But recently myself and my siblings, well 5 of the 7 anyway, have gotten past any hurt we have had in the past and have started having big family dinners again! I can’t express the joy I feel when we get together. This year one of my nieces, yes I have nieces my age, just had a baby December 12 so we have an extra special Christmas with a newborn.  I love that my son is finally getting to know his cousins and extended family. Life can be a little lonely as an only child.

At Christmas dinner I always make a point to remind the kids of the true reason of Christmas and why we celebrate. They have coloring activities and they get a copy of the Christmas story. They all seem to enjoy the lesson.

You know Jesus was always inviting himself to dinner 🙂 Can you imagine answering the door and seeing Jesus and he is asking to dine with you for the night? What would you want to talk about? Would you talk? or would you just sit and listen at his feet? I am not sure how I would react. I am sure it would be somewhere between Mary and Martha. I would hope to be like Mary and sit and listen but I know my desire to accommodate guests I would be acting like Martha!  Mary and Martha story is one of my favorite stories in the bible.

Are you having a big family dinner for Christmas? Or a smaller dinner? Somewhere between? How ever you celebrate I pray you have a joyful time!

Some coloring sheets to print for Christmas.

Day 23 of the countdown to Christmas Scripture Matthew 2:3-7 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed and all of Jerusalem with him. When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied “for this is what the prophet has written: “‘ But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people of Israel” Then King Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star appeared.
