Blowing up a balloon with vinegar and baking soda (July 2011)

Vinegar and baking soda are 2 ingredients that can be used to get fun reactions and an afternoon of fun! On this day we decided to see if we could inflate a balloon with them.

Supplies you will need:

1 empty water bottle
1/2 cup vinegar
2 tablespoon baking soda
1 balloon

Place 1/2 cup vinegar in the water bottle

Funnel the baking soda into the balloon

Stretch the balloon over the water bottle

Lift balloon up so the baking soda falls into the vinegar, the chemical reaction will inflate the balloon.

 Little Man says “vinegar stinks”.

We repeated the experiment several times and really enjoyed it.
